Kenneth Bliss - Author
The Full Story
About Me!
My name is Kenneth Bliss. I am a Mathematics and Computer Science degree holder from the University of Michigan-Flint...which has nothing to do with writing. I am also a retired insurance professional of thirty-three years...which barely has anything to do with writing. Business writing just doesn't count. However, my very active imagination (which I attribute to God, since my parents didn't know where it came from) DOES have to do with writing, years of reading books and watching sci-fi movies (especially anything Star Wars), and a fondness for role-playing games such as D&D and Pathfinder.

Me and my cat Percival from 2024.

Here is Cali, my sweet girl. From late 2023.

Also from late 2023, me at the Christmas light show at Crossroads Village in Flint, MI.

Mission
I am dedicated to crafting imaginative stories that bridge the gap between Christian values and the boundless possibilities of science/psience-fiction. My mission is to inspire readers (that would be you) with thought-provoking narratives that challenge the imagination and explore the depths of faith.
My Author/Writing Backstory
I was first pushed into writing in the mid-1990s. The first iteration of my novel, titled Psylam, chewed up nearly two years of evenings and weekends to complete. The behemoth clocked in at 196K words. I shopped it around to a handful of publishers to no avail. I should also note I wasn't saved at the time.
In 1997, I asked our Lord to forgive me of my sins, which, of course, changed everything. The manuscript collected dust until 2010 when I decided to make the beginning of the book the climax for the first book of a trilogy. God was missing from the original manuscript, but not this one. No longer just sci-fi, it would have Christian overtones to it. Thus, Eric's War - The Cougar and the Lamb was born. I started working with a publisher, but the feedback I received didn't sit well with me and I decided to self-publish instead. Note I said "overtones". Yeah, God didn't appreciate that. I'm convinced He cursed that version, and it died.
When I retired in 2023, I wanted to revive my writing. Re-reading the critiques from earlier convinced me they were correct, and I was wrong. I also realized God needed to be in the forefront, not just "overtones." The third iteration, The Paladin Awakens - God's Paladin Part I, is now in the works. Even though it's based on Eric's War, the rewrite will be substantial enough for it to be considered a new manuscript.
Please join me in my writer's journey.
