I want to thank everyone for joining my website and agreeing to this blog/newsletter. As of today, there are twenty-five of you. It’s certainly not in Best Seller territory, but it’s a start. 😊

One Mind, Two Worlds

                You might be wondering “what two worlds?” I have only one book written and it takes place on Earth. The rewrite of that book will still only take place on Earth, but I’ve had in the back of my mind a second world where other stories will take place. This second world is one filled with fantasy-type creatures and adventures. So, I’m going to touch on both worlds in this first newsletter.

Eric’s World

                The first world is the Earth where Eric D’Tra’val lives. It is set in the future, somewhere between 2070 and 2090. Eric’s War was set in 2075, but I haven’t settled on a year for The Paladin Awakens. There are some changes in history/future I haven’t decided when they take place, so the final year may fluctuate a bit. It is also considered an alternate reality because I’ve tinkered with our history a little.

                I’ve taken the approach with Eric’s world that humanity has progressed, but not as advanced as you might think. Cybernetic limbs, Maglev trains, individual Maglev vehicles, and genetic engineering in humans all exist. Artificial Intelligence has progressed to the general intelligence level, but not the superintelligence level. AI robots exist, but not AGI robots. All of this is touched on in the first book.

                Space travel is confined to our solar system. There are multiple space stations orbiting the Earth and a base on the moon. Travel to the moon isn’t commonplace, but there is limited tourist visit to our nearest celestial neighbor. For the most part, none of this will matter to the trilogy. It’s there for future stories.

                One of the expansions to this site will be a timeline of Eric’s world, starting with the deviations from our known historical timeline up to when The Paladin Awakens begins. There are many components to Eric’s world I will document on this site for your enjoyment.

Canthany

                So, what is Canthany? The premise behind this world begins with the Garden of Eden. When Adam and Eve broke God’s commandment about the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they left some of the fruit they had picked on the ground. At that time, all animals were vegetarians and some of them decided the fruit must be fine to eat since Man had left it and they ate of it as well. They didn’t have the same intelligence as Man, but now there existed animals with the same knowledge/conscience as Man.

                God decided these animals should not exist with Man and sent them to world He created as a precursor to Earth. This world is more “perfectly” timed than our Earth using many of the common numbers from the Bible. One, three, seven, twelve and forty all appear frequently in the timing of the planet’s day, orbit around the sun, the multiple moons orbiting the planet and the multiple planets orbiting the sun. The animals sent here evolve quicker than we have. They become bipedal and talk. So, they will become anthropomorphic versions of critters we have today. I haven’t worked out all the details concerning this system, but eventually, I’ll add it to the website.

                There are other creatures inhabiting Canthany which we would call mythical creatures. The monsters of our myths exist here. Dragons being the chief among them. In addition, a magic system exists along with the psionics system of The Paladin Awakens.

                As I add more newsletters, I’ll touch on these worlds in more detail.

The Paladin Awakens Progress Report

       The last section of these posts will be a progress report on my current work in progress.

I have run through the Eric’s War manuscript and have completed a first pass at the plot/storylines. This does not mean I have a completed manuscript, but a general idea of what needs to change. My goal is to have the storylines complete by the end of February so that I can submit the book to the ACFW Genesis contest by March 2nd.

I’m working with the ACFW Scribes subgroup to submit chapters to the group and receive feedback/critiques. The manuscript has 37 chapters with a prologue and epilogue. The prologue and 13 chapters have been submitted and critiqued. I took a break from submissions over Christmas and New Years and will begin submitting again on January 4th.

And that’s it! The first real newsletter/blog post is complete. For the next one, I’ll talk about Devilish Humor.
